Definition/Cause
A decrease in the lactose content indicates an udder disease. It is often associated with a decrease in protein content and a high cell count content. As a result, the animal’s milk yield is below its capacity.
Other causes of a drop in lactose levels:
- Poor housing conditions (cold and wet bedding, drafts, udder crushing)
- extreme malnutrition
- Diseases with severe disorders of the general condition
- Deficiencies in feeding and husbandry technology
Signal values: lactose % < 4.85

Measures

- Clarification of the causes of cell count increase, also bacteriological examination and resistance test in cooperation with the veterinarian
