Definition/Cause
A decrease in the lactose content indicates an udder disease. It is often associated with a high cell count content and a decrease in protein content. The milk yield of the animal is often below its capacity.
Other causes of a drop in lactose levels:
- Poor housing conditions (cold and wet bedding, drafts, udder crushing)
- extreme malnutrition
- Diseases with severe disorders of the general condition
- Deficiencies in feeding and husbandry technology
Signal values: Lactose% < 4.75
yellow
>= 30 % in the lactation section
Measures
Controlling animal health
- Clarification of the causes of cell count increase, biological, technical, husbandry-related (also bacteriological examination and resistance test in cooperation with the veterinarian)
- treat other diseases such as BVD, BHV1, hoof diseases, other health impairments or eliminate their causes
Other causes:
Deficiencies in feeding and husbandry technology
