Definition/Cause

A decrease in the lactose content indicates an udder disease. It is often associated with a decrease in protein content and a high cell count content. As a result, the animal’s milk yield is below its capacity.

Other causes of a drop in lactose levels:

  • Poor housing conditions (cold and wet bedding, drafts, udder crushing)
  • extreme malnutrition
  • Diseases with severe disorders of the general condition
  • Deficiencies in feeding and husbandry technology

Signal values: lactose % < 4.85
