Definition/Cause

A decrease in the lactose content indicates an udder disease. It is often associated with a high cell count content and a decrease in protein content. The milk yield of the animal is often below its capacity.

Other causes of a drop in lactose levels:

  • Poor housing conditions (cold and wet bedding, drafts, udder crushing)
  • extreme malnutrition
  • Diseases with severe disorders of the general condition
  • Deficiencies in feeding and husbandry technology

Measures

Controlling animal health

  • Clarification of the causes of cell count increase, biological, technical, husbandry-related (also bacteriological examination and resistance test in cooperation with the veterinarian)
  • treat other diseases such as BVD, BHV1, hoof diseases, other health impairments or eliminate their causes
