Suspicion of excessive body fat accumulation (101-200 days)

This post is also available on: German

Definition/Causes

The cows absorb more energy through the feed than they need for maintenance and performance. If the proportion of the structure decreases, there is a risk of acidotic loads.
The hormonal redirection of energy into body mass begins too early. In many cases, there is milk fat deficiency syndrome

Measures

Goal: Align energy consumption with demand!
Ensure a balanced supply of energy and protein

Check feed intake

  • Is the food ration (calculated) also eaten?
  • Can the animals select the high-energy components?

Check feed quality

  • Secure 400 g of crude fibre for every 100 kg of body mass.
    • Pay attention to the proportion of structurally effective crude fiber.
    • 8-10% of the particles should be larger than 4 cm.
  • Check on-demand feeding for function and calibration

Check feed ration

  • Adjust the energy content of the ration to milk yield
  • Securing the structure
  • Assignment to feeding groups

Controlling animal health

  • Body Condition Score (BCS), BCS grade should be on 200. Lactation day at 3.00
  • If necessary, arrange for additional examinations
    • Urinary pH (<7.5)
    • NSBA in urine (< 150 mmol/l)
